Walking Dead season 3 premieres!

We were sportin' our One Less Zombie tees last night for the Walking Dead Season 3 premiere! We sold some shirts for $5 off during the ep and enjoyed all of the gore and eye-poking-out zombie fun! I was on Twitter and saw some really great tweets, like who coined the term "inzombnia" for the sleeplessness caused by watching TWD. And there was this tweet: from "Please let some zombies start singing an a cappella "In the Jungle." Join us next Sunday on Twitter for more Walking Dead fun and discounts!

Public relations, political, zombie, Bill O'Reilly Dream

My PR, if not political, hero. Thanks Bill!
I almost muted The Today Show this morning, in deference to my latest hot vampire book, so I could concentrate on the subtle nuances of fae blood and attraction to vampires. Almost. Then Bill O'Reilly came on the screen. Political debates make me very uncomfortable. Like, get-up-and-pace-out-of-the-room uncomfortable. I have a problem with people being assholes and embarrassing themselves. But we are doing a PR campaign for our One Less Politician t-shirts and one of them features the iconic ass and elephant as the walking dead. ZOMBIES! This is a kick ass shirt. So I left the TV on. I about spit my perfectly brewed Keurig coffee all over my Kindle because, much to my astonishment and utter delight, Bill O'Reilly actually says the following: “If you come in with zingers, you sound stupid,’’ he said. “They have to just occur to you. Romney’s got to have enough confidence in his intellectual acumen to get in there. But if he comes in with all this rehearsed stuff, he’s just going to come across as a zombie.’’ (clicking here takes you to The Today Show's full interview, including the quote.)
I can see Bill sporting this t-shirt now...

YES. THERE. PR GOLD PEOPLE! He linked zombie to Romney on national television! With Savannah Guthrie! The press release we previously penned linking politicians to zombies hits the net tomorrow!

So here's to keeping the volume on, even when you'd rather read about some characters getting it on (or in Sookie's case in this book, NOT.) And don't forget to get a One Less Politician, the true walking dead shirt now, before Bill O'Reilly buys them all.

An apparel show, a rotting ass and the presidential debates

We've got so much good stuff coming up! We'll be at the Northwest Trend Show October 7 to 9. It's a smaller Pacific Northwest Apparel Show and we're working to get our brand in front of buyers.

We also have the political debates starting October 3, right along with the season premiere of The Walking Dead on October 14. What do these two things have in common, you might ask? A shirt, of course! A couple of our coolest friends suggested we zombify our One Less Politician shirt and our designer came up with the walking dead animal political icons. Who wouldn't want to wear a rotting elephant and ass on their favorite t-shirt?

We're also really proud of our patriotic One Less Politician, One Stronger Nation kick-ass eagle/flag tee. The sentiment behind this design is that if we had more real people running our country instead of politicians, we would be stronger and better for it.

Both One Less Politician t-shirts are only $19.99.

Thanks to Doug, a very cool guy, professional model, a friend of Ted's, for letting us take a bunch of shots of him.

Magic or Bust? Both.

We had a spectacular looking booth at the August Magic Trade Show. I'm not afraid to admit that we felt our booth was effn awesome. We had catalogs, notebooks to hand out, a great display and even Peppermint Patties (Ted's favorite). Unfortunately, we did not stay for the whole show. To make a really long and painful story super short: we were not in the printed guide under our category and we were not placed well on the show floor. In fact, all of the independent t-shirt brands were about 7 aisles over. We were next to beanie babies and licensed sports apparel. So, we're going back in February. Crazy you say? Maybe. But the show organizers are working with us and we are not going to let an apparel trade show get us down. We will be successful and we are going to do what it takes to get there. In the meantime, enjoy some glimpses of the coolness that was OLN at our short show appearance. And remember, "Don't let the bastards get you down!"

-Shelley

Damn this looked good!

What would we do without 3M command hooks?

Just before I took this, the sportswear people in the next booth were staring at us and whispering "What are those t-shirt freaks doing here?" Then I gave her candy.

We attracted a lot of other vendors and shirt salesmen with our minty freshness

Now you know what my kitchen counters look like. Plus, cool notebooks.

Best thing about the show? The hoodies Ted got for us. I LOVE mine, thanks TT!

We were lookin' all professional-like, with our sewn in tags...

Remembering 9/11

Just a quick note to say that we're remembering 9/11 today and holding close to our hearts our loved ones and our beautiful freedom.

It's MAGIC time!

No, this is not Ted. Thankfully.
No, we're not putting on capes and black hats (well, Ted wears black hats, but that's another story) and sawing a broad in two. We're exhibiting at the Magic Trade Show in Vegas in a little over a week. This is a BIG, BIG deal for us. It's an investment in the future of our brand as we present our line to the single largest event in the apparel industry in the US. Did I say it's a big deal? Yeah. But we could not be more excited!

Last February, we went to the show to really look closely at other vendors at the show and where we thought we fit in. I wrote a post all about that experience here: "Water's cool at POOL". But we didn't get in to POOL. We were very bummed, but then we were told we were actually a better fit for the STREET section of the Magic Show. WOW! Big time here, on the big show floor. We were accepted at STREET and we started getting ready.

Unbelievably excited to be on this little map
We'll be in booth 35048. We've been gearing up with labels for our shirts, notebooks and stickers to give to the buyers walking the show, plus a new catalog (picture to come). I'm sharing the pictures of a few of the things we've done so far and will keep the updates coming!

We're posting over at the T-shirt forums too, sharing our experience and hoping to meet up with other t-shirt peeps at the show. Check out our Facebook and Twitter for updates too!

There seems to be a mad love of these notebooks

No, we're not selling tagged Audi seats

Fremont Fair!

We had plenty of clothes ready for all of the naked people

Most popular design of the show!
We've got loads of pictures of naked bike riders (that we actually cannot post) and stories (that we can tell you next time we see you in person) about our first Fremont Fair, but for now we'll give you this quick post. What an awesome event! We launched five new shirts that we are extremely proud of and our last minute addition of our slogan shirt was our top seller for the show! In a very close second was the always popular One Less Zombie - huzzah! Some really great people stopped by to give us the best feedback we've ever gotten. At times, there would be a crowd standing outside our booth, reading all of our shirts and laughing at their favorites - what an amazing feeling. Thanks to the Fremont Fair and to everyone who came by and supported us!

I told Ted to go put his shirt back on...
Some type of brain sculpture. Or a zombie fantasy. You decide.

Happy Birthday to the big man

Our 'fearless' leader
So the story goes that one day, Ted was on the slopes of Steven's Pass with his son, boarding. There were a bunch of skiers doing what skiers do...getting in the way. Ted mumbled to himself "If there was just ONE LESS SKIER on the slopes today..." and thus our brand was born! Today we celebrate the birth of the man himself and say this: we hope no bastards get you down or get in your way today! Happy Birthday, TT!

Getting ready for Fremont Fair in June!

We are going to have a booth at our first outdoor event! We'll be at the Fremont Fair this June and we're really excited! The Fremont Fair will be June 16 and 17 in the Fremont neighborhood in Seattle. We're looking for ideas on how to display our t-shirts and make our tent exciting and enticing. If you have an idea for us, post it in the comments or on our Facebook page.

Zombies, Huskies and a cocktail

We're not in Indiana anymore, Toto.
It's not Jack, but we'll take it.
Booth at the Trend Show
It's been a crazy few weeks for us at OLN. I met up with my business partner in our home city of Seattle (I'm in Indiana - cyber work is awesome) and we got so much done! We went to Emerald City Comic Con, to our print shop - Gorilla - for more One Less Spartan and our new One Less Tourist Tee, then exhibited at a small apparel show. We went from checking out the huge Walking Dead table at ECCC to selling our One Less Husky and One Less Cougar tees to a store in Spokane. We are stoked! Where does the cocktail come in? One of the cool things about being involved in the fashion industry is that there always seems to be cocktails at all of the trade shows...

WTF? Who is that? Don't call me SHIRLLEY!

I was accosted by fans, bitching at me for not reading the comics yet...

We're still winners...

Bite me...just kidding!
No. We didn't make it out of round 2 in TeeMadness 2012. Nope. We got our asses handed to us by a brand that has about 5 shirts. Yup. But we did gain 15 new likes on Facebook and our web traffic increased exponentially. So ultimately, we did not make it to the final round, pass go and collect $200 (or get lots of sticker $$ that we really, really could have used.) We did get our name out there, have fun and get more exposure than we could have hoped for. So thanks to TeeMadness and all of the awesome people who voted for us! You guys are awesome and we are so lucky to have each of you in our corner. Don't forget you can get our OLN Fist and our One Less Zombie tees for only $15 while supplies last, as a thank you for the support.

Round 2 - TeeMadness 2012

WE MADE IT PAST ROUND 1 - HUZZZAH! Now it's time to dig deeper (not really) and take the 1.7 seconds it takes to click on THIS link and vote for OLN! Round 2 lasts through Monday night, March 26 at 8:30 pm EST. Tell your friends, post it on Facebook and Twitter. Blog it.

We're against a bigger dog (FictionField) but we know with your support, we can be VICTORIOUS! BRING IT ON PEOPLE!! http://teemadness.iamthetrend.com/?r2game=11

Tee Madness 2012!

Who needs March Madness when there's Tee Madness?
If you haven't been following our Twitter and Facebook accounts (and why not? Come on, people!) then you may not be aware that we are in the middle of a battle to the death, just like those poor tributes in the Hunger Games. No, not really, but we are in a really cool competition put on by I Am The Trend and Blue Tide Productions (thanks guys!) called Tee Madness 1012. It's a competition in which independent t-shirt brands match up and duel it out, just like the brackets for March madness, except we win cool stuff from Storenvy, Stickermule, LaunchHype, Threadbird and Cheapest Buttons. Plus we get lots of great exposure!

We actually went through a match up drawing last Friday night and have been battling it our with Perfect Chaos Clothing (PCC). We're ahead right now (see my awesome graphic??) but they're catching back up. We've got until 8:00 pm EST tonight (March 22) so if you haven't voted, get to it! We're the fifth box down on the right, click the box and select the radio button by OLN. If it shows only voting percentages, then you or someone on your same IP has already voted. Only one vote per household per round. Thanks for the support!

Jump in, the water's cool at POOL

It's been a couple of weeks since we've been back from going to the Sourcing and POOL trade shows in Las Vegas, as part of the overall MAGIC Apparel Show - time flies when you're workin' hard! I wanted to share why we went to this show and what we learned while there.

This year our goal is to expand our distribution. The best way to do that is to get in front of retail buyers. How do you get in front of them? Exhibit at the most influential show in the apparel industry! And as we expand our distribution, at some point we'll need to start having our shirts manufactured for us. That's where sourcing comes in.

A little eavesdropping goes a long way
Sourcing is a show for people like us, looking for international vendors who make high quality apparel that they will print and label for us. Now here's the truth: if you are pretty new to a business and are trying to figure out what you even need to know when going to something like this, you just have to listen to other guys who are drilling the vendors with questions. Sure, there is a bit of a communication gap with some of the vendors there, but there is certainly a common ground of expected questions. And by our oh-so-stealthy eavesdropping of a power buyer (or at least he talked like one), we found out how to sound saavy too. What's the production time? What are the terms? What are the minimums? We walked the entire show, every aisle and soaked it all in. We took catalogs, felt dozens of samples, saw very cool labeling and know that when we're ready to order 500 or more pieces, we've got a great cache of vendors that we can work with when we do land the big fish.

We can be this cool, right?
Speaking of big fish, POOL is undoubtedly the biggest fish for independent brands. I also think it's imperative for a brand to attend a show in advance to get a feel for how other vendors set up their booths and for the kinds of traffic and layout of the show. POOL is extremely visual. Three years ago when we were just starting out and we first went to POOL, we were in awe. We thought we were such small fish in a big, BIG pool (ha). We then set about building our brand through adding designs, promoting our online store and presence and attending a lot of fan conventions and events. What those events did for us is invaluable. We learned what designs to take (um, everything), how to display, sell and promote.

We see stickers in our future...
This time when we visited POOL, we looked around in excitement. THIS is where we need to be. (cue Rocky music in the background...) This is how we need to get our brand out there. While feeling reassured that our brand is completely unique, we also felt a kinship with the independent brands there. We're all in this, working hard to get some attention and for people to come to love our brands as much as we do.

$180k is a LOT OF T-SHIRTS
Listen, if someone can sell a $180,000 Swarovski crystal elephant, I know we can sell some $25 custom designed, super soft t-shirts to the right stores. After Vegas, we know that more than ever.
